Our Story
Queens for a Cure was founded in 2004 by Miss Georgia American Coed Lacie Smith. After losing both her grandfathers to cancer, Lacie was determined to do something to make a difference in the fight against cancer. In honor of her grandfathers, Lacie founded Q4C and began working toward raising money to help fund cancer research.
Inspiring other beauty queens to join her, Lacie gathered pageant title holders from throughout the state of Georgia and not long after it was established, Q4C became a widely known organization throughout the state of Georgia that inspired beauty queens to use their crowns to make a difference.
Each year, during Relay for Life events, Q4C invites cancer survivors into their "castle" and gives them "the royal treatment" by crowning them with shiny tiaras to celebrate their victory over the deadly disease.
Since its inception, Q4C has raised nearly $100,000.00 toward cancer research, and has inspired tons of queens to use their titles to focus on raising awareness, hope and funds to find a cure for cancer.
Having been involved in Q4C as a charter member since 2004, Kayla Watson was recently appointed by Lacie as the new director of the organization.
Even though she is only 14, and is the organizations youngest president, Kayla has visionary goals for the organization, with the ultimate goal of launching Q4C nationwide.
Although the primary focus of Q4C is raising money for the American Cancer Society, Q4C routinely gets involved in other worthy charities and causes and inspires title holders to use their crowns to make a difference in their communities. Q4C queens have been known to volunteer and fundraise with the Special Olympics, March of Dimes, and other charities.
